It’s Spring… and I’m Not Talking About the Weather

Few seasons get by you faster than Spring. If you have been following our information on rhythm, you know from our post last fall that Spring Break is the turning point in the Spring season and we are now only 6/7 weeks from most Spring Break weeks.

We do our best to give you a look ahead into the seasons where you can prepare your ministry calendar, leadership, and communication funnel.

  1. When you consider your ministry calendar for the Spring, divide it into two parts. Make a list of events or dates before and after Spring Break. For those ministry events that require planning, start a list of bullet points of the things that you need to do in order to make each event of the highest quality.

If you haven’t already started planning for spring, check out our new Lent curriculum that covers you from Ash Wednesday until the week leading up until Palm Sunday.

  2. Now make a note for your leadership beside those bullet points and email your leadership (right now) and make your ask. Once your team is together you can plan a meeting time or use your regular meeting time to go over assignments and details.  Encourage your leadership to build your team. When you become the model for building a team your team will have something to follow.

  3. Consider your communication funnel. I’ll be honest here; I like talking about this because I’ve found most people never consider their communication funnel in their ministry or organization. This funnel is the way you will communicate with a specific audience in order to get the greatest response.

Not every event is the same and your communication funnel needs to be adjusted to each event. So, consider your audience and then script the best ways to communicate. Once you begin this process, especially for events you will notice a difference in response.

Most industries fall into this communication trap where they use the same routine with every event regardless of the audience or event. Once you start to use this process be sure to consider it as a part of your evaluation following your event.

You develop your communication around these questions:

  • Who needs to know?

  • What is the best way to communicate?

  • When do I start the process?

  • Is it working?

If you would like to continue this conversation or others go on over to our brand new Facebook Group where we can collaborate. Our goal with this new group is to guide a conversation with other student ministers that ultimately works towards shaping students. The name Horizon comes from knowing that the horizon is always out front. Therefore, this group will help you keep your focus on what lies ahead.
