A Simple 3 Step Process To Effective Programming

A Simple 3 Step Process To Effective Programming

Programming doesn’t have to be complicated and can be done simply when done consistently. Following a routine will help you achieve positive results in developing and managing your Youth Ministry strategy. Work these three practices into your weekly routine and let us know what you learn. You can share your experience on our Youth Ministry page, Horizon Youth Ministry.

  1. Advance planning will give you time to think through your program and acquire the resources you need. I feel like you can pull off any program with six weeks’ notice. So when you start planning, start six weeks out. Using a Launch Strategy will give you a pre-Launch period where you can get this done.

Bring your team together, share the theme or teaching point, and create a template to use for your programming.

  2. Create a program sheet.  A program sheet is simply a sheet that has every element that you will use during your group time. Some program sheets have great detail particularly if you use a combination of programming elements like lighting, sound, recorded music our videos, etc.

Make sure everyone that has a responsibility has a program sheet and knows when they need to be ready to transition for their part.

There are several benefits to a program sheet, but one is you are more likely to get others involved over time.

If you would like a copy of the program sheet we use, contact us and we will send you one.

  3. Evaluate by yourself or with your team the next day. Take your program sheet to use as a guide and ask, “What went right? What went wrong? What can we change to make next time better?” Work through the details, make notes, and now you have jump-started our next program meeting.

Obviously, there is more to it than these simple three steps, but these steps will advance your thoughts into regular, quality programming.

The best things you do in Student Ministry ought to be the things you do every week.
